"Is graduation canceled?" is a question on the minds of students, parents, and teachers across the United States. State-wide school closures have been announced in at least 46 of 50 states, including 90% of all public and private schools and 95% of all students nationwide.

Meanwhile, besides battling for essentials in trips to the grocery store and trying to cope with online, remote, or distance learning on an unprecedented scale, many high school seniors or university graduates and their parents deal with the loss of end-of-year celebrations like prom, senior trips, senior weeks, and possibly even canceled or delayed commencement.

Schools across the nation are developing creative and coordinated response plans to lessen the impact on students who feel, rightly, that something is being taken away from them. In addition to the day-to-day affairs of running classes remotely and providing lunches to students, they are also planning how celebratory and recognition events can proceed potentially in an altered or delayed fashion.

We remain optimistic that the worst impacts of loss of life and livelihood may be limited to the greatest extent possible.
